Ruana

This is a great way to use up scrap yarn. Or, you can buy special yarn to make it one solid color. I don’t know how much yarn I used. I will work on that this winter, and hopefully have an estimate of the quantity needed. I’m thinking it was about 100 grams for 2 rows, but don’t hold me to that. I made in four pieces, then sewed them together. But, you can make it into two long pieces and then have one seam down the back.

Baby Alpaca Ruana

Baby Alpaca Ruana Front

I made this ruana in two pieces. The center strip is 2 rows of green on each side, and I added one extra row of green on each piece down the back side. This made just a little extra room for the back of the neck.

The rest of the rows are four rows of each color. And the very outside strip I used five rows of green.

Baby Alpaca Ruana - Back

I used a J hook (Canadian/UK size 4) (AUS/NZ Metric hook 6.0 mm). And I started each side with a chain of 126 stitches. Both pieces began on the inside and ended on the outside. The two pieces were joined with a seam down the back.

Baby Alpaca Ruana - Closeup

I used Cascade Yarns brand 100% baby alpaca 100 gram skeins. I used 5 skeins of green, 3 skeins of tan, and 2 skeins of brown.

Baby Alpaca Yarn Label

Worked in same basic pattern as above, but more rows and more stitches.
